State Incentive Grant Youth Substance Abuse Prevention implements a prosocial family treatment for 60 families in Wards 7 and 8 designed to reduce reported incidents of anti-social behavior by youth in school and the community. Decrease inappropriate parental attitudes and belief about involvement in substance abuse, crime and violence. Cannabis Youth Treatment Project Cannabis Youth Treatment Project is a family focused and youth-centered substance abuse treatment program that uses research-based strategies to intervene and address adolescent use and abuse of marijuana (alcohol, tobacco and other drugs of abuse (ATOD). Health Services for Children with Special Needs Health Services for Children with Special Needs provides managed health care services to individuals less than 22 years of age that are entitled to medical assistance under DC Medicaid Plan because they are disabled. Services include: diagnostic interview, individual therapy, medical management, psychological testing, psychiatric evaluation, enhanced crisis intervention, transportation, mentorship, and respite care for children. Saving Youth Against Violence Project Saving Youth Against Violence Project - A culturally based, value-oriented violence prevention/intervention project that focuses on the comprehensive development of the child and fostering effective adults. Goals of the intervention are to: prevent the occurrence of selected negative psychological symptoms; decrease the psychological effects of exposure among children who are already displaying physical/mental ramifications of violence; help children and adolescents develop coping skills, pro-social behavior, and adherence to a value system that will reduce the likelihood of their involvement in future violence; empower residents of public housing to respond to incidents of violence in their community through the development of a crisis intervention team; and empower parents to become more pro-active in community violence prevention efforts, maintain linkages with their children's schools, and develop more effective child rearing practices. Intervention to Break the Cycle and Heal the Pain of Children Intervention to Break the Cycle and Heal the Pain of Children who have Witnessed Domestic Violence intervenes in homes where children and/or adolescents have been exposed to domestic violence; furthermore, IBC educates/trains District of Columbia Fifth Police District employees and other professionals in the area who interact with youth and their families about the effects of domestic violence. Program objectives include development of: a multi-level prevention and treatment intervention program for children and adolescents who have witnessed domestic violence; a training program to transmit victim-centered domestic violence/child abuse knowledge and strategies to police, professionals, and service providers; and a psychosocial treatment model in community-based youth serving agencies and schools. Teen Prevention and Intervention Program (TPIP) Teen Prevention and Intervention Program focuses on the prevention and reduction of dating violence, a precursor to violent adult relationships. The program consists of two interconnected parts: group prevention activities for all perpetrators and individual intervention activities for other individuals at high risk for involvement in dating violence. |
